A trafficking survivor, Christa Hicks earned her Master's in Mental Health Counseling in 2012. She founded Into the Jordan in 2013 & became a licensed therapist in 2014. Christa is passionate about inspiring women to break the cycles of trauma, addiction & lack of life choices that are common among survivors. She is head-over-heels in love with Jesus Christ, a dedicated wife, mother & a lover of the outdoors. She has a strong desire to empower women to surrender wholeheartedly to Christ, prioritize their family life, pursue healthy boundaries & engage in self-care that energizes & sustains so that we can enjoy many years of loving on others.
A retired high school teacher, she travels as a part-time missionary to Africa with Every Child's Ministry to teach sewing & life skills aimed at helping trafficked & exploited refugees become economically independent. Sharon also travels with her husband, Frank, to Costa Rica as a part-time missionary with TATICA, an organization disciplining local law enforcement officers in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Sharon is our lead mentor & tirelessly pours her heart into walking beside survivors as they pursue their dreams.
A childhood sexual abuse survivor, who passionately desires to share the healing she found through her relationship with Christ with women, who have similar experiences. Diane is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), who is in private practice at SWFLA Counseling, in Fort Myers, Florida. Diane offers counseling to Into the Jordan members & is part of our outreach team.
Joann Medinilla is a teacher at Southwest Florida Christian Academy, who felt a strong call to serve survivors of sex trafficking after hearing Christa Hicks share her testimony at a mission’s conference in 2014. Joann is a dedicated mentor at ITJ, and leads GED (general education) tutoring sessions for members. She is passionate about Christ & her family. She has a life-long love for education, & her gentle approach is perfect for women overcoming multiple traumas common to trafficking survivors.
Melinda Starrett is a survivor of trafficking. She’s a mother and wife living a life only God could have planned for her. She is the assistant manager at the Fig Leaf Boutique, spending time with other women by sponsoring through AA and leading a weekly life skills group with Into The Jordan Ministries. Recently joining NMSI, she will continue to follow her calling to share the love of Christ with others.
